Louisville Craft Beer Week debuts
Louisville knows bourbon and horse racing. Now the Kentucky city on the Ohio River will show the world that it knows craft beer, too.
Friday marks the kickoff of the inaugural Louisville Craft Beer Week. Taking its cue from similar events in such cities as Philadelphia and Cleveland, Louisville plans nine consecutive days of hops- and malt-filled goodness.
And this time of year is perfect to plan a Road Trip for Beer to Derby City – the weather will be mild, and you might even catch some early fall leaf color.
These are the marquee events during Louisville Craft Beer Week. Click on the links to find out more:
Friday, Sept. 24: Craft Beer Cask Festival at Bluegrass Brewing Company, 4 p.m. to midnight. (Draft Magazine is running a contest to win free tickets to this).
Saturday, Sept. 25: Strassenfest at New Albany’s Riverfront Ampitheater (Indiana), 3 to 11 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 26: Craft Beer for Brunch at NABC Bank Street Brewhouse (New Albany, Indiana), 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 27: Beer Dinner at L&N Wine Bar & Bistro, 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 28: Bell’s Brewery Beer Dinner at Café Lou Lou, 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 29: Goose Island Beer Dinner at 610 Magnolia, 7 to 9 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 30: Indiana vs. Kentucky Draft Day at Rocky’s Sub Pub (Jeffersonville, Indiana), 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 1: Junk Food Beer Dinner at Monkey Wrench and Germantown Bus Tour, 3 p.m. to midnight.
Saturday, Oct. 2: The third annual BBC Volksfest on Clay Street between Main and Market streets, 3 p.m. to midnight.
Now remember, beer road trippers, those are just the “marquee” events. There’s plenty of other brew-centric action during Louisville Craft Beer Week; you can find that schedule here.
One of the cool things about this is that Louisville is home to a company called CityScoot, which will send a professional designated driver to drive you and your car home if you’ve had too much to drink. According to its website, the service costs about as much as a cab ride, but you won’t have to return to pick up your car the next day.
Regardless, as always, know your limits and drink responsibly. Take advantage of public transportation or designate a sober driver.
