New law lifts alcohol limits in Iowa
The recent signing of the “Iowa Beer Equality Law” by Gov. Chet Culver lifts the previous six percent alcohol limit for beer. According to news reports, this allows retailers and restaurants to serve higher gravity specialty beers, such as Belgian- and English-style ales, Russian imperial stouts and German bocks. Previously, such brews were available only through the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
Also, under the new law, Iowa-based brew pubs and craft breweries will be able to produce beers with higher alcohol content; they had also been subject to the six percent upper limit.
