Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!Whether you are Irish, only Irish for the day or hiding out from the shenanigans altogether, there’s one certainty: A lot of Guinness will be poured and enjoyed.
And if for some reason you need more excuses to raise a pint of the iconic Irish stout, here’s a couple.
This year is the 100th anniversary of Guinness being bottled in the United States. According to the interactive time line on Guinness.com, in 1910 “Burke’s, the largest GUINNESS® bottler, begins bottling in the USA. They arrange for sky signs to be erected on Broadway at a cost of $1400 per year.”
These days, Guinness is owned and operated by global spirits powerhouse Diageo, also responsible for a few other Irish beers: Harp, Kilkenney and Smithwick’s.
The second excuse: It’s good for you, according to researchers.
Of course, if you have just way too much Guinness to be able to drink it all (Is that possible?), you can always cook with it.
Bottoms up, and cheers!
